A downloadable game

This game was created for the Game-a-Week Sydney jam. I don't expect to play it more than once. It requires a duplex printer, scissors, and everybody to have phone to play - I've tested iPhone (Safari, Chrome) and Android (Chrome).

Some parts only make sense if you're a game developer.

Most up-to-date instructions are at https://benkalman.com/qrdle including how to print the game.

Welcome to Qrdle!

What is a Qrd?

A Qrd is a word, except there are only 48 Qrds. An example Qrd is "Bird".

Qrds are categorised in 3 ways: by their syllables (3 possibilities), spelling (4 possibilities), and topic (4 possibilities). You may have noticed that 3 × 4 × 4 = 48. That's because every Qrd has a unique spelling, syllable, and topic combination.

I'll leave it as a little puzzle to what these are until you play the game.

How to play

The cards with Qrds on them are called Qrd Cards. The cards without Qrds (just a QR code) are called Go Cards.

At the start of the game each player takes a Go Card. When everybody is ready, scan it. This assigns you a unique Qrd. The goal of the game is to discover this Qrd.

Discover it by scanning Qrd Cards! The first person to find theirs wins the game. Each incorrect Qrd scanned tells you how many categories match the correct Qrd – but not which ones. You'll need to experiment to find the correct Qrd (or be lucky).

Qrdle supports 1 – 48 players.
